3 tips for professionals to start the year fresh

The holiday break is a great time to spend with family and friends. It is also the time many professional advisors take stock of the year and have some down time to recharge their batteries. The energy to deliver high quality advice and service well is often under-estimated. Professional advisors and the people who support them need to remember to keep the work life balance in check.

So to kick the new year off, here’s a few tips to help your professional advice business start the year refreshed too.

Read the signs

How does your street signage, foyer signage or reception signage look? Is it a bit tired? Signage is considered by many to be the ugly duckling of marketing communications. It’s not glamorous and it doesn’t cost lots of money. Signage wherever it appears however is a valuable communications tool for enhancing your reputation. It helps existing clients find you again. It’s also like a book cover for your business. Existing and potential clients will form an opinion of you, by how you present your business to the world.

Action item 1  – Check your signage. If it looks tired refresh it.

Read the magazines

What reading material do you have in your reception area? Are there newspapers and magazines older than 3 months? That’s so last year. Give your clients something more current to read. Magazines in particular have a habit of hanging around well past their used by date and can look tattered and tired.

Action item 2 – Check your reception literature. If it looks tired, refresh it.

Read yourself

At the start of this blog I spoke about the energy it requires to deliver high quality advice and service. This year I encourage everyone in professional services to read themselves better. If your energy levels drop, and you feel tired then perhaps your body is telling you that you need a break. An athlete won’t win a race if they don’t look after themself. And while we might not be athletes, the same rule applies to how professional advisers retain existing clients and win new ones.

Action item 3 – Check yourself. Plan to take breaks throughout the year and recharge. Your clients will appreciate the energy you bring to them and you’ll keep a better work life balance. Your family will thank you for it too, especially if you have kids.

May 2013 be all you plan for it to be.

Great info and straight to the point. I don’t know if this is in fact the best place to ask but do you guys have any thoughts on where to employ some professional writers? Thanks :)
